What to Expect After Your Photo Session
Wondering what happens after your photo session? If you recently booked a session and are excited to receive your images, you may be asking, “How long does editing take?” When will my gallery arrive? What happens after I download my photos?
This guide walks you through exactly what to expect after your photography session, so you know what happens behind the scenes, from backing up your images to editing, gallery delivery, and preserving your memories for years to come.

Your Images Are Uploaded & Backed Up
After your photography session, one of the first things I do is safely upload your images from my camera to my computer.
Next, I create a folder with your name and back up your images onto two separate external hard drives for added protection. Your memories matter, and keeping multiple backups helps protect your photos during editing.
Selecting the Best Images from Your Session
Once everything is safely backed up, I carefully review each image. During this stage, I remove duplicates, test shots, out-of-focus images, and photos where eyes may be closed so your final gallery includes the strongest images from your session.
Please know that not every image captured during your session will be delivered; my goal is quality over quantity.
Sneak Peek Photos for Social Media
One of my favorite parts of the process is sharing a few preview images! I select and hand-edit a small collection of photos to share on social media within the next few days, whenever possible.
If you prefer to keep your images private and not featured online, simply let me know before your session.
Your Images Are Hand-Edited
Every delivered image receives individual attention and professional editing. I use my artistic style and judgment to edit your gallery in both color and black and white when appropriate.
If you receive a black-and-white image, there is often a color version included as well.
If you would like an additional image converted to black & white, I’m happy to do that. Just email me or let me know once you receive your gallery.
If you prefer your entire gallery edited in black & white, an additional editing fee may apply due to the extra editing time involved. This fee typically ranges from $40 to $75, depending on the size of your gallery.
Please reach out to discuss your request, and I’ll provide the exact fee before any work begins, so you know what to expect.
Please note that my editing style remains consistent with the work shown in my portfolio.

Why Editing Takes Time
Every gallery is carefully reviewed and hand-edited with attention to detail. This process includes selecting the strongest images, adjusting exposure and color, refining details, and preparing your final gallery for delivery.
Quality editing takes time, and my goal is to create images that reflect the care and experience put into your session.
(Stay tuned—I’ll be sharing more of the behind-the-scenes editing process in a future blog post!)
How Long Does It Take to Receive Your Photos?
Most portrait and family galleries are delivered within 2 weeks. If there is ever an unexpected delay, I will reach out to let you know and provide an updated timeline, so you always know what to expect.
Editing takes time because I carefully review and fine-tune each image before delivery. Once complete, your images will be uploaded to your online photo gallery.
Your digital images will be delivered as high-resolution JPEG files suitable for printing, along with a separate folder containing images for sharing online.
Each file is formatted for quality prints and easy viewing on any device, so you can enjoy and use your photos in a variety of ways.
You’ll receive an email with instructions for:
- Viewing your gallery
- Choosing included images (if applicable)
- Downloading your files and link to print release
- Sharing your gallery with family and friends
Online Gallery Viewing & Expiration
Your online photo gallery will remain available for viewing and sharing for two weeks. Please download your images before your gallery expiration date.
To avoid losing access, I recommend downloading your files as soon as possible and creating backup copies.
Need More Time to View Your Gallery?
Life happens!
If you need additional time to access your gallery, please reach out before it expires. Gallery reactivation is available for a $35 reactivation fee.
You Downloaded Your Gallery—Now What?
Your photos are now ready to enjoy! You may save, share, and print your downloaded images as often as you like.
Once your images are downloaded, you are responsible for storing them safely.
For the best protection, I recommend:
- Saving images to your computer
- Backing up to an external hard drive
- Uploading to a cloud service such as Dropbox or Google Drive
- Keeping more than one backup location
Protecting your images now helps preserve your memories for years to come. Digital files are precious; protect them like family heirlooms.
Printing Your Images
Your images deserve to be printed and enjoyed, not left sitting on your phone or computer.
Whether displayed in frames, added to albums, gifted to loved ones, or turned into wall art, printed photographs become lasting reminders of the moments you never want to forget.
For the best color, sharpness, and overall quality, I recommend using a professional print lab whenever possible. Professional labs are designed to produce more accurate colors and longer-lasting prints compared to many consumer printing options.
Tip: Consider printing a few favorites soon after receiving your gallery so your memories become part of your home and everyday life.

How to Order Professional Prints
Your images deserve to be enjoyed beyond the screen. If you would like professional-quality prints, you can order directly through me for beautiful color, quality, and lasting results.
Simply email me the image number(s) you would like to order, and I will send over an invoice for payment. Once payment is received, I will submit your order for processing.
Prints typically take 7 to 10 business days to arrive once your order has been processed. If you need your prints by a certain date for a gift or event, please let me know so I can provide the best options for your timeline.
You are also welcome to download your images and print through your preferred print lab. If you choose your own printer, please note that color and quality may vary depending on the lab and the products selected.
Whether displayed in frames, albums, or wall art, printed photographs are a wonderful way to enjoy and preserve your memories for years to come.
Sharing Your Images Online
One of my favorite things is seeing your memories shared and enjoyed! Feel free to post your images on social media and share them with family and friends.
To help preserve the quality and consistency of your gallery, please avoid applying filters, additional edits, cropping, or using editing apps that change the colors, tones, or overall look of your images.
Each image is carefully hand-edited to reflect my artistic style and the finished experience of your session.
If you would like a different crop, a black-and-white version, or a small adjustment, please reach out. I’m always happy to see if I can help.
If you share your images online, tagging my business is always appreciated and helps others discover my work. Thank you for allowing me to capture these special memories for you!
What Is Not Included in Standard Editing
To maintain a consistent editing style, standard editing does not include body reshaping, clothing changes, background swaps, extensive object removal, or heavy retouching unless discussed beforehand.
If you have a special editing request, please reach out. I’m always happy to discuss options.

Tips for Choosing Your Favorite Images
Seeing your gallery for the first time can feel exciting—and sometimes a little overwhelming! If you are having trouble narrowing down your favorites, start by choosing a variety of images that tell the full story of your session.
Consider selecting:
- Close-up portraits that capture expressions and personality
- Candid moments that feel natural and genuine
- Full-body images for variety
- Different family combinations and groupings
- Images that would look beautiful printed as wall art
- Photos that would make meaningful gifts for loved ones
Most importantly, choose the images that make you feel something. The best photos are often the ones that bring you right back to that moment.
